The KroNland – Transflorium Foundation was founded in 2023 to create a transparent way of distributing funds from awards, royalties or donations linked to the Foundation’s activities to organisations and individuals working for a just and sustainable world.
The mission of the Foundation has been shaped to ensure it is aligned with their values and the goals of her activism. The Foundation donates funds to support projects and organisations in line with it’s mission.
The KroNland Foundation(www.kronland.hr) was originally founded by Sandra in Croatia on January 10, 2021, ten days after the devastating earthquake. The founder and initiator of NGO based in Croatia is Sandra, a native of Sisak, who has been living and working in the Netherlands since September 25, 2019. Inspired by the devastating earthquake that struck Sisak-Moslavina County on December 29, 2020, she collected humanitarian aid together with members of the Croatian community in the Netherlands in the amount of 30,000 euros and delivered it, together with two trucks of humanitarian aid, to the victims of the earthquake in Marin Brod. After returning to the Netherlands, she founded the foundation on January 10, 2021, together with four other young Croatian students in the Netherlands - Jelica Grgić, Lucija Mrkša, Tea Miličić and Moreno Vuleta. In 2021, they connected with a large number of Dutch organizations, artists and Dutch economic experts and launched the first project and festival Cultural Industry in the city of Sisak at the Dutch House Sisak, where a delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was a guest, together with former Ambassador Henk Voskamp. This marked the beginning of the first activities to promote the culture and tradition of Dutch artists in Croatia. The Cultural Industry festival was co-financed by the Sisak-Moslavina County, the Ministry of Culture and Media, the Petrinja Tourist Board and the Dutch Embassy. In 2022, at the initiative of the KroNland association, the first Croatian Days festival in the Netherlands was held in Hoogblokland, where the ŽVS Lađarice and Petrinja pianist Robert Hoodoline were presented. The festival was attended by a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Den Hague, together with Ambassador Dubravka Plejić-Marković. The festival was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Sisak-Moslavina County. The festival will be held in 2023 in Bergshenhoek in collaboration with the Croatian Catholic Parish of Nikola Tavelić in Rotterdam and the Croatian Education in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The LIPE Community Centre, Petrinje pianist Robert Hoodoline and academic sculptor Ivan Novak from Petrinje were presented. Since its founding, in addition to the cultural activities of the association, the KroNland association has been developing the Transflorium project on sustainable development and green architecture, in collaboration with prominent Dutch economic experts, for the purpose of revitalizing the Sisak-Moslavina County and helping with reconstruction after the earthquake. The main objectives of the project are: employing the local population, preventing emigration from the Republic of Croatia, ensuring the return of emigrants, caring for the environment and individual health. The Transflorium project contains 12 of the 17 European Green Plan goals that each EU member state must meet by 2030. The leader of the Transflorium project is Sandra, and we are developing it in cooperation with Croatian and Dutch vocational schools. One of the project's objectives is to adapt modular teaching in Croatian vocational schools to the Dutch model of vocational education, to adapt the knowledge and skills of Croatian vocational school students to the labor market, i.e. education on the construction of traditional Croatian houses using new materials and work technologies in the construction industry. The main partners in the project are: Vocational School Sisak, Industrial and Craft School Sisak and Da Vinci College Dordrecht.
In 2022, the Transflorium project received financial support from the Central State Office for Youth and Demography in the amount of 10,000 euros. The final result is the creation of two models of a tiny house and a tiny house-boat, which were jointly created by Croatian and Dutch teachers and students during the 12-month duration of the Transflorium project. In 2023, all of the aforementioned project partners applied for Erasmus+ with the About Green - Green working skills project. The project was rated as the best Erasmus project in 2023., and the main goals of the project are Train The Trainers (training Croatian teachers with new knowledge and skills on sustainable development and green architecture) and creating a digital manual and a digital platform on the principles of building a tiny house from sustainable materials. As part of the Erasmus project, the KroNland foundation also held several micro-educations in the field in nature, near Petrinja, e.g. planting energy plantations (paulownia), micro-education about drones as a new tool in the construction industry and many other activities. The digital platform is in Croatian, English and Dutch so that students and teachers as well as all other interested individuals around the world can access it and learn more about sustainable development.

Before any decision is made, grantees are asked to provide an outline for the use of the funds. Based on this outline, and the Foundation’s own due diligence, the board makes a decision about the grant. After a grant has been made, grantees are asked to provide a report about how the funds have been used.
The ambition is to minimise administrative costs for the Foundation and rely on pro bono support whenever it’s possible. The main running costs are related to the essential services legally required to run a foundation, ie. administration, due diligence, accounting, auditing and legal services.
The Foundation uses ING as its house bank. ING is the highest ranking Dutch bank regarding sustainability. The Foundation has no money invested in stocks, bonds, shares or equity funds.
